Why should you use these cards?
We have designed these cards specifically for Scrum projects. They are made from high grade card, generously sized at A5 (twice the size of some index cards) and are double sided. The front side captures the User Story and its attributes, the back the Tests for the story.
The front side of the cards are designed to capture the following information:
- The User Story
- Story Point estimate (Points)
- Unique identifying number for the story (ID #)
- Priority
- Risk
- Business Value
How do I use these cards?
The cards should be used to capture the details of the User Stories for your project. If you aren't familiar with User Stories I would highly recomend you read Mike Cohn's excellent book User Stories Applied.
Mike suggests the following template for use in defining a User Story:
As a <type of user>, I want <some goal> so that <some reason>
Mike also has a great follow up blog article on why his User Story template works so well, you can read it here
Step by step usage guide:
- Write the User Story (as above) on the front of the card, in the lined space provided
- Write the tests to validate the story on the back of the card, in the lined space provided
- You should at this point be able to give the story a unique ID (ID #), business value and risk
- Once a sufficient amount of User Stories have been gathered the team will then estimate the story (Points) and the Product Owner will then be able to assign an Priority based on all the attributes on the card.
